This Antique English Geo. III inlaid and highly figured book-matched flame or crotch mahogany Hepplewhite style serpentine Sideboard is quite possibly the best sideboard we have ever had – or at least the best sideboard we have had in the past fifty years! Please note the exceptional inlays throughout – Welk shells, foliate inlaid panels above tapered bellflowers all adorn the leg fronts while the sides of the legs are also modestly inlaid with satinwood and boxwood. This sideboard has two “two drawer” cellarette drawers (one to each side), ormolu Regency lion’s head pulls (antique but may have been later replacements). There are so many attributes that it might be hard to list them all. The finish is exceptional and the condition is nearly pristine (other than some age-appropriate “use marks” and faint rings all of which have been illustrated in the images provided (please ask for more – but please be specific as we have tried to show from all angles.) The rear is mortise and tenoned. The brass gallery appears to be original and fabric from the former owner that adorned this gallery is still available upon request. The depth of the serpentine shape is incredible and its size makes it a “one off” sideboard fit for the finest of homes, hotels or board rooms wherever tasteful serving pieces are required. Please note the elegantly detailed marquetry inlays throughout. The highly figured crotch or flame mahogany could not be finer and the colour is extraordinary. This sideboard has no parallel!
Measuring 92.13 inches long (wide), 53 inches high (to the top of the brass rail gallery), 44 inches high to the raised step-back and 37.75 inches to the serving height. It measures 31 inches deep at the center and narrows to 24″ deep at the ends.
