Tiffany solid Silver Sterling Centerpiece Bowl, C 1951 also called ‘modern’ Inspired by the modern movement, Tiffany’s silversmiths made some spectacular silver during the 1950’s, which was totally unadorned; relying on its form to create an object of beauty. The only decoration on this sculptural piece are the four rings on the pedestal base. Oscar Riedener, Tiffany’s silver designer who would replace Arthur Barney as chief silver designer in 1955, almost certainly designed this piece. The underside of this wonderful piece is marked ‘TIFFANY & CO/ MAKERS/ STERLING SILVER/ 23356/m’. According to Tiffany Silver by Carpenter, this particular ‘m’ mark was used from 1947-1955 and this piece was designed c. 1951-2. It measures 31 cm diametre et 11 cm H ,12.5 inches wide by 4.25 inches high, has never been monogrammed and is in very good condition.
