Original Oil Painting on Paper by Listed Modernist Sculptor Herb Kallem, 1970, Framed

This is a Very Rare Abstract Oil on Paper painting by listed American Modernist Sculptor, Herbert Kallem. The painting is hand signed “Herb Kallem 70”.

Herbert Kallem was a listed early Modernist sculptor who produced very few paintings. His sculptural works are keenly collected and this unusual painting would be an excellent addition to any collection.

The piece, produced in 1970, is an abstract figural form with a heavy brutalist aesthetic. It appears to be produced by scratching the figural shapes into a heavy bed of applied paint. The most amazing feature of this piece are the vein-like structures evident throughout. I am not sure how this was achieved, but the effect is amazing. The piece is in excellent condition with just a couple of minor nicks to the frame. It is professionally matted and framed in a heavy metal frame behind acetate.
