Late 20th Century Korean Porcelain Cinnabar Chawan

A captivating piece by master Korean potter 이종렬, also known as 감월. The use of cinnabar in Korean pottery has often been reserved for the occasional brush-decoration. Here, the deep, velvet-red becomes a landscape on outside of this matcha tea bowl. Near the foot ring, oxblood-red beads of glaze are suspended in the act of falling. The inside of this bowl has a light mist of the cinnabar colour near the lip; a fine craquelure covers the interior. Signs of use, good condition.
