This beautiful vase with handles and a deep black glaze is a production of the potters of Accolay. Sober, it translates the ethnic, historical and modernist influences on the local ceramics community. An original decorative piece, this vase stands out for its shape and the depth of its nuanced brilliance, with astonishing metallic reflections. In the middle of the 20th century, Accolay was the setting for a true revolution in ceramics. Four former students of Alexandre Kostanda settled in the small village in the Yonne in the mid-1940s, and many potters followed their example. For about forty years, the production of the potters of Accolay will be impressive, original and audacious.
The vase is ringed on its surface, its black glaze is dense and nuanced. It is nicely signed in hollow “Accolay”. It is in good condition, a firing crack is visible on the junction of one of the handles.
9-19 cm diameter, 19 cm height.
