1950s Molla Faux Bamboo Greek Key Cast Aluminum Outdoor Dining Table & 4 Chairs

This is a glamorous midcentury outdoor dining set attributed to Molla. The Molla Company, founded in England during the late 1800’s and expanded to New York, was one of the first outdoor furniture manufacturers to use cast aluminum, which was easier to move and more resistant to rust than the cast iron furniture of its time.

The Hollywood Regency style cast aluminum dining set includes a round textured glass top dining table and 4 matching dining chairs. The set features white painted faux bamboo fretwork arranged in an oversized Greek key pattern.

The 4 original lime green chair cushions are included. The cushion covers are made of vinyl backed with white fabric and stamped “BFGoodrich” in red ink on the reverse. I had no idea why the cushions bore a stamp from a former American tire company, so I did a bit of research and found that a scientist from BFGoodrich accidentally invented plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in 1926, which was then used to manufacture many useful things such as fire-resistant coatings for wires and durable vinyl fabric.

Please note, however, that these green vinyl cushions were designed to be used in an indoor sunroom protected from the elements. For use outdoors, new cushions will need to be made with open cell foam that can dry quickly if rained on.

The 1950s era dining set is in very good vintage condition. Every piece is sturdy and well constructed. All joints are intact, needing no repairs. The original white painted finish is chipping throughout. It looks charmingly vintage as is, or it could be repainted with a high-gloss lacquer for a fresh look. DINING TABLE: 42.5” diameter and 29” tall with a knee clearance of 24.5 inches.

DINING CHAIRS (4): 17” wide, 16.5” deep, and 33” tall with a seat height of 16.25 inches. The included green cushion adds 2 inches to the seat height.
