Fire-gilded bronze
Empire around 1820
Dimensions: H x B x D: 41 x 13 x 12
Description:
Beautiful, completely gilded French fireplace.
The basic shape is in the form of an urn vase with lid and lateral handles.
Almost square pedestal with applied flower basket as a flat relief.
The dial is located in the middle of the front view of the vase and is framed by a finely ziselled bezel. In the four corners we see applied arrows.
The laterally mounted female faces, so-called caryatides support the handles, which in turn end up in heads of dolphins or fabile.
The heart of the clock forms a classic French pending mill with thread suspension of the pendulum and lock disc slash. Bell on bell at half and full hour. The gear duration is one week.
Black Roman numerals, Breguet pointer. In the lower area of the dial we see the signature: Tardy à Lyon.
Condition:
Completely overtaken movement, flawless in the function. Purified bronze with laterally slight rubbing of fire gilt.
This vase watch is mapped in the literature:
Elke Niehüser – The French Bronze Ohrp. 267
